WESTOVER ADDICTION ASSISTANCE SERVICE

The Westover Addiction Assistance Program became the Westover Addiction Assistance Service in Dec. of 2006 which is a separate service in Partnership with the Westover Treatment Centre.  The service is a provincially recognized Level 1 Community Withdrawal Management Program, funded by the Erie-St Clair Local Health Integrated Network.  The service is to offer non residential Withdrawal Management Services to residents of Chatham-Kent and Lambton County

The services offered by the A.A.S. at this time are a 24 hour a day Direct Line to Help for persons living in Ontario with addiction problems and for their affected family members and friends.  The client is given a limited assessed over the phone by an addiction counsellor and provided with treatment options.  The client is referred to the closest place where treatment is available.  If the client lives in Chatham-Kent or Lambton County and needs immediate Withdrawal Management care at a residential Withdrawal Management Centre in London or Windsor the service will arrange for the bed and if needed provide transportation. (By way of a trained volunteer driver) The AAS also will provide rides to Chatham-Kent and Lambton County residence to treatment centres within the LondonWindsor area.

The service also provides relapse prevention services by allowing people with addiction problems to call and just talk with a counsellor for a few minutes, to help the client get over the erg to use.

The Westover Addiction Assistance Service will be adding new services in the future as it grows and reaches to comply with Community Withdrawal Management Standards for Ontario so it can better serve the residents of Chatham-Kent and Lambton County.  At present two pilot withdrawals management projects are being developed one in Chatham-Kent and one in Lambton County.
